Background |

| Eden was founded in 1985. Eden is an international organisation and is registered as a foundation in Sweden and Norway, and as a Non Governmental Organisation in Niger. The research office is located in Zinder, Niger with the field station at 14°51'N 8°52'E (130 km to the north of Zinder) in a 200 mm rainfall area. Eden has been carrying out Direct Seeding Tests at its field station since 1988 with good results for several species. Local farmers have been direct seeding since 1991 using start-off quantities of seeds provided by Eden and have let natural revegetation occur in their fields since 1992. They make the initial contact with Eden by their own initiative. Eden started to consult other projects on direct seeding in 1993. |
